In vitro, acute and subchronic evaluation of the antidiabetic activity of Atractylis flava Desf n-butanol extract in alloxan-diabetic rats

Abstract Background Diabetes mellitus is a serious complex multifactorial disorder that imposes huge health and economic burden on societies. Because the currently available medications have many drawbacks, it's important to look for alternative therapies. Medicinal plants utilized in folk medicine are ideal candidates. Therefore, this work assessed antidiabetic action of n -butanol extract from whole plant Atractylis flava Desf (BEAF). These ethnomedicinal properties BEAF were scientifically validated using vitro vivo assays. In effect was conducted α-Glucosidase α-Amylase While antihyperglycemic activity two rat models: Alloxan-induced diabetic rats oral glucose challenged rats. Experimental diabetes induced by single intraperitoneal injection alloxan at dose 150 mg/kg animals with fasting blood levels (BGL) > 200 mg/dL considered diabetic. Glibenclamide (5 mg/kg) used as typical drug. Results The all tested (100, 250, 500 showed significant decrease level animal models. Besides, exhibited potent inhibitory concentration 1000 µg/mL 76.17% 89.37%, respectively. Conclusion exerts effects, these results suggest can be therapeutic resource treatment hyperlipidemia.
